Odell Beckham supported by Vikings players in ‘Free Odell’ shirts
The Odell Beckham discourse is out of control.
Multiple Vikings players showed up for warmups Sunday in “Free Odell” shirts before facing the Ravens. Cam Dantzler (a Louisiana native who grew-up with Beckham) and Justin Jefferson (an LSU alumnus are included in this group.
Beckham has been released by the Browns according to any standard definition. Beckham will be officially waived by the Browns on Monday. If he is not claimed by Tuesday, Beckham can sign with any team that he chooses. What more could happen here isn’t immediately clear.
Beckham attempted to force his way out Cleveland this week, after things got out of control with his father’s post on social media and other allies. Beckham was granted an exemption from practice by the Browns, who worked with Beckham in order to get him waived.
Now, he wants to be a playoff candidate. The Vikings, at 3-4, don’t exactly fit that bill, so it’s hard to see this stunt as positioning to sign Beckham once he’s available.
Beckham, who has 232 yards and 17 receptions this season, will be paid $7.25m if he is claimed on waivers. Beckham would be eligible to sign with any team if he clears waivers. The Vikings aren’t one of the nine teams that have $7.25 million in cap room.
Minnesota hosts the Ravens in Baltimore to try to return to.500.
