The Past, Present and Future of CAD Evolution
In the past 50 years, computer-aided design (CAD) has been a keystone in the world of design and prototyping. Engineers and architects used to rely on physical tools to design even the most precise and important pieces. However, CAD has made it possible to carry out these plans digitally, increasing accuracy, eliminating human error, and making the mock-up process more efficient than ever.
In the early days, CAD was very inaccessible to the general public. Even those who needed the software the most often could not use it due to cost, location and functionality constraints. Today, not only can we use CAD to make almost anything, but it doesn’t take a degree to be able to use it. Students, creatives and even children can use different variants of basic CAD software to bring their ideas to life. Additionally, the software has garnered a following, with many experts and global enthusiasts often gathering at conferences to discuss breakthroughs and drive forward the future of CAD.
Next for computer-aided design is predicted to be artificial intelligence integration. AI can be used to offer designers a companion that will streamline the creative process and overall improve the experience of using CAD for all purposes.
