Cracking Down on Drug Use With Employment Drug Testing Laws
As more and more states begin to legalize drug use, it is equally as important to implement the proper testing and regulation measures to keep people safe during their day to day. Each state is unique in its drug use landscape, and each state has a different tolerance for recreational and medical drug use. In 2024, over 500 bills related to drug testing were introduced, which is significant in the wake of increased leniency when it comes to the legalization of marijuana.
With over 20 states legalizing recreational marijuana use and over 35 legalizing medical use, there has been a notable uptick in positive marijuana tests in the workplace. This has sparked a need for drug testing, especially in safety sensitive industries. In order to manage this risk, industry leaders have been cracking down on drug test cheating across the United States. Many states already have anti-cheating policies in place, which include detailed check-in times, adulterant tests, and dilution detection technology.
Specific industries are drug testing their workforce more frequently with energy utilities in the lead. Transportation, manufacturing, wholesale trade and construction also have taken advantage of anti-cheating policies.
