Jerry Jones changes tune on massive Roger Goodell contract

It’s all good now between Jerry Jones and Roger Goodell.

Though the Cowboys owner once fought Goodell’s reported $64 million salary, Jones seemed just fine with the number.

“Certainly those numbers on the face of them are large numbers,” Jones said on Bob Costas’ HBO show, “Back on the Record.” “Roger has been an excellent commissioner. I might say that back when years ago when I first came into the league they would be big numbers. I don’t know for sure what a man of your talent was making back then.

“But I know we could look at where we are today, and those numbers have increased a lot during that time. So everything has gotten more as opposed to maybe what we’ve looked at in the past. However, I believe this. I think that Roger Goodell has done an outstanding job as commissioner of the NFL.”

When owners gave Goodell an extension in 2017, it was seen as a rebuke to Jones, who was upset over Goodell’s handling of Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension that season.

There were suggestions at one stage that Jones might be removed from ownership or disciplined.

These are some of the many achievements.

And although things are far from perfect with the NFL — the Washington Football Team investigation being the league’s chief issue — the owners don’t seem to have issues with Goodell at the moment.
