Civil rights and wrongs reviewed at Hofstra
Hofstra University’s Center for Civic Engagement hosted “Civil Rights and Wrongs” on Feb. 24 to bring light to the fact that in 2016, equality is still an issue. The day included panels on the #OscarsSoWhite debate, pay equality for women, the Flint water crisis and transgender and immigration issues in America.
In an interview with Aashish Kumar, co-director of the Center for Civic Engagement, he spoke about the education opportunities a day such as this gives to students.
“Being able to respond to a discussion in a room and to listen to points of views that might be new or might open a new opportunity for thought provokes in every student the desire to either find out, to explore or to even have a different attitude about an issue,” he said.
