No shortage of animal shelters on Long Island

With the holidays just around the corner, now is the perfect time to adopt a furry friend from one of Long Island’s many animal shelters.

With more than 25 shelter locations across Nassau and Suffolk County, there is an abundance of dogs, cats and everything in between looking for their forever homes.

Even if you’re not looking for a new four-legged addition to the family, many of these shelters offer volunteer opportunities so you can help make these animals’ everyday lives a little more cheerful while they await adoption.

On the map above, blue dog icons indicate shelters that have only dogs, magenta cat icons indicate shelters that have only cats and green paw icons indicate shelters that have cats, dogs and more.
